Sunday, March 28. 2010Family DNA stuff- Hucul, McDonald, Faykes, Burbee, Cooper, Harker,
Everyone else can ignore it. I just wanted to put this up here so the search engines would pick it up in case there are other people out there in the world wide web that are looking for information, or conversely, have information that we need for our family and genetic trees...
Trying to get some of this done before I leave my VERY FAST internet connection next week for the horribly slow one in the islands. Well, we now have family trees on GENI, and also on Ancestry. Ancestry is good with all their historical records, for anyone's info. We could just cross load them up. My immediate family, just about all, have now done their DNA and medical stuff through both 23andme and Decodeme. It is like a huge jigsaw puzzle that I find incredibly hard to put together, but rewarding when I do. If ANYONE has had genetic testing done, please point me in the direction of it so we can share more information. We have the Halpogroups mapped out on the various sides, and in both the genetic sites I belong to, they have "relative matches" where they point you in the direction of potential relatives. It is quite interesting, and we have some interesting tidbits that I will try and share. On my fathers side (Sidney Hucul) (the Hucul/Faykes combination) His maternal (goes up the female line) Halpogroup is T1a. This is common in Europe, Near East, Palestinians, Turks and Syrians. Indeed, looking at him, it is no surprise that there is some middle eastern in him. I have uploaded some pictures of the screen shots from the groups, so you can take a look from where it is and get more information. This is also held up by some of the "genetic hits" I have gotten from people with him from places like Turkey, who are pure Turkish. In dads Paternal line (the Hucul side straight up the male line) his group is R1a1a. This is a very common group in Eastern Europe. Probably the most common. It is comprised, no surprise of Ukrainians, Poles and Indians. Again, I have uploaded a screen shot. Most of the genetic matches we are getting for my father (Sidney Hucul) all seem to be from Ukraine, Russia etc. On my mother side (Connie Hucul), We do not have the PATERNAL DNA on the Burbee side. You can only get it from direct males, so we would have to get one of her brothers to take the test. We do have a halpogroup from Dan McDonald going up the female line (Dan McDonald is Carrie Burbees nephew from her brother, so it goes up nicely from there) , (screen shot attached) and he is a R1. Which interestingly, dropped off people along the way in Eastern Europe before heading UK, Scandinavian Way. On Connie Huculs maternal side, we have H6A, which does have some french and czechs in it, since we know there is french in the background somewhere it makes sense as well. I have a screen shot of that included in the pictures. I am getting a lot more genetic hits on mom on family finder, Of course, lots of Scandinavian, French, and United Kingdom. We have a few "4th cousins" that we are in contact with genetically, now we just have to find the connections in our ancestry. The more people that take the genetic tests, the more we can piece together. By comparing which strings on which chromosomes match, with some practice you can easily see whether they are relatives on the maternal side or paternal side. Ancestry.com ties it all in well as they have so many historical data records scanned, it gives a very important piece of information in that MAIDEN names are listed, on both UK birth and Marriage certificates, which is really handy. IN other Hucul question marks: We are trying to place Shelley Hucul in our family tree. We know the connection is somewhere. She just added her profile to our tree and she has her grandparents paternally as Aksentji Hucul and Wayslana Sobol who were from the RIGHT flipping same street as our family in Winnipeg but we don't have the connection yet. If anyone knows anything about that. And, one last thing, my husband (Barry, Bazza Cooper) has a billion aunts and uncles in the UK that I just finished adding to my tree. Every family seems to repeat the same names for generation after generation. I know all this stuff is confusing and I am still a babe in the woods, but if anyone gets into the genetic stuff, I will look forward to getting together with you on that. ![]() ![]() ![]()
Logo's for my saildivebvi site
I have been bugging Bruce with Promenade to put his many years of Graphic Designing experience to work for me and to do me some proper logo's and cards etc etc for SaildiveBVI.
I have been giving input, but really trying to use his knowledge instead of my laymans "gee I love the pretty pastel colors" knowledge. It has been several years since both SaildiveBVI and Yacht Promenade site had had a sprucing up and they are both long overdue. If I have to look at pastel blue on the yacht promenade site for much longer I may scream. Never mind the ucky fluoresent blue on the Saildive site! So, here are a few ideas he threw at me this afternoon. Any comments welcomed. He is narrowing down as we speak... actually it was easy to get him to do these NOW as I told him unless he did me new logo's I would NOT come back on Promenade and do any charters! ![]() ![]() ![]() FYI: Bazza likes 4 and 12 the most Bruce likes 3 and 12 I like anything with pastels! Having said that, I like 6, 8 and 13 (13 with some tweaking on the blobs that may or may not be islands....I like the palm tree) I also like 9 with all white writing.... And we won't even get into the ones that look female or male like!!! So, Cape Cod Pirates, If I am not there and ready for charter on the 10th of April, you know to blame Bruce as he obviously did not finish my designs!! Bits and Bobs
Time to get on the blogging trail again. Have not been feeling well the last couple days, so laying low. Did manage to get my airline tickets to go back to the Caribbean though. They have a red eye direct from LAX into San Juan, on my favorite airline of them all, American... Oh well, if I take a sleeping pill when I get on the plane I should be good for the night and wake up in San Juan I figure.
The game of packing and sending boxes is still being played. Our place that holds our mail in St Thomas is going to HATE us until we get those boxes out of there i believe! ![]() Mom will be glad to know that one of the first things on Bazzas "to do" list (yes, folks, he has a NEW to do list now....how do you think I keep him out of trouble??) was to put in a fan in "her" bathroom which entailed cutting things in the roof. Since he had also fixed and tarred the roof it apparently was all the best to do at the same time. ![]() But, to my husbands ever lasting delight though, he not only has many work shops, but he has his own "electronic room". And here he is very busy on his "electronic desk" I opened a couple of the cupboards in there and could not believe how quickly he had filled it up with "stuff" And fedex and UPS showing up at the door daily!! ![]() I found the perfect thing to put on the counter in my office. A margarita machine! Although I hate margaritas, I can live with vodka type things in it too... I think it goes perfectly there! ![]() This is the view out our kitchen window. You can "see" the hills and the Lion has its own little bed in the back yard. I can't believe how much "stuff" we had in that. It took me hours to unload some of it into the house... ![]() Of course I managed to find time to go out for steak one night. Outback is about it here. We tried another place called Black Angus and it was really not very good at all. Not at all. The decor was 60's cheap low end steak house. You guys who live in the states probably know all the ins and outs of the different chains, but I have to discover them now myself... ![]() Our two lovely realtor ladies from Tarbell, Robin and Lisa, showed up at my door with a BBQ cover as a house warming gift. I thanked them and said "Now I guess I will have to buy a BBQ" but they soon showed me that they had taken care of that already! I told them that I did not think real estate PAID that well nowadays and they told me "the size of the housewarming present was directly proportional to how much they liked the client" I was not sure where that put me on the scale but I liked the present!!! They left it for Bazza to put together. He drove in the drive way later and came in the house wondering why there was a BBQ in the middle of his garage... ![]() Tonight was another big occasion! the SECOND meal I made in our new house! As you can tell here I am artfully working on my presentation in preparation for serving meals on the boat again in a couple weeks. I think this display turned out especially well don't you??? ![]() Speaking on the boat, some of you may recall when I came back from the islands in November, I was shocked to look at my clothes in the first world and see exactly how much like rags they looked. Embarassingly so! I do admit I go for comfort much more then style ( no kidding kerry, this from the girl who goes from nightgowns to swimsuits and back again on the boat!) Since I was feeling a bit under the weather, I thought while Bazza was playing projects (back to the ROV now since he is soon to go back to the boat!) yesterday I decided to go see what Macy's had in my size bracket. I have included this picture to show you that BEFORE heading to the yacht I bought a whole new selection of NON RAGS. I have already shipped the new swim suits and nightgowns down! Now, I know, in three washings, after the local laundries have gotten hold of my clothes they will look like rags again, but if you are on our boat in the next month, you get to see me in non rags!!!! AND colorful ones at that! ![]() That is all from me for a Sunday evening. Time to see what is on for me to watch in my last week of watching my HD Directv!!!
