It was a bumpy trip up to Virgin Gorda this afternoon. I grumbled, whined and had a little nap! Then I grumbled and whined some more since we got here cuz I did not want to be here so they put my dive gear and camera for me in the dinghy and sent me away to dive while they did some boat preparations. I went out on the inside of the reef, but near the entrance to at least find 25 feet of water, I was being very cautious since i was by myself and I certainly did not want to get caught in current and swept out toward Tropical Storm Emily. If anyone is looking for Lobster Dinner, if I saw one large lobster this afternoon I saw 30! They were everywhere, and yes, I believe I took a picture of every single one of them!
I clicking away on lobsters, of which I have a billion pictures of totally ignoring the caribbean octopus that was spread out right underneath me! And then cursed cuz I had the wrong lens to get all of him, but still, not often I get one out so that was nice...
Took a few pictures of soft corals...
Parrotfish...
All the coral here is basically dead or dying of disease as well, the colors are mostly gone...
These little fish were cute though...
A couple pictures of the surface of the water...
An urchin
A Rock Hind
And by the time I returned to the hurricane hole they were tucked in where they wanted to be. I understand we are preparing for more rain then wind. I am sure nothing will happen now that we have come up here, but that is ok!
Received this pic and an email that was passed around because someone was very unhappy about a bareboat captain down in the Southern Caribbean. Now, she is TOO nice to post it on HER blog, but I have no such scruples...
His captan is the most rude , uncompetent and stupid we have ever seen,
we have meet this boat 4 times in 10 days, cruising there, and, at every time, he never cares to anchor very close to other boats,
he invites local friends on board, play loud music,
when all that folks and noises has waken our baby, we politely asked to lower the music.
in response, he flipped us (finger up) and put music even louder.
i am sure this behaviour is not the one that your estimated clients are expecting during a relaxing cruise.
Just goes to show you NEVER know who is watching out on the water and with all the cameras nowadays.......
Came across a good video which explains a trip and the history of the Callwood Rum distillery in Cane Garden Bay. Well done!
Well when things look like this 36 hours out...
You decide to load your eggs back in the basket, take your lines out of the storage locker again and make your way to a hurricane hole. We went back and forth about it, but Bazza final reasoning was, if he went to the hurricane hole and it was "just" a tropical storm he might not have to cut the awning down where as somewhere else he probably would have had to!
His logic works for me... I think probably one of the best lines I heard about Erika this morning was from Chris Parker quoted here:
"--The more I analyze Erika, the more I realize we really don't have a good handle on where she is...and if we don't know where she is...and if all of the forecast guidance has been wrong about Erika's behavior over the past 6-12hrs...then we can't be sure what she'll do going forward."
Makes sense, Annie from Cuan Law had called me yesterday afternoon wanting to know what we were doing, thinking it would help them decide which way to jump, thought it was quite funny that we were both sitting on the same fence at the time HOPING we could just go to Great Harbour... So I guess everyone is having a hard time calling this one.
I am not sure why they are smiling about this fun operation! (Notice Simeon did get a haircut?)
Apparently the messy ROV IS coming as well, although he did clean up all his little bits of wire that are scattered everywhere...
We tied on Simeons foldy boat, threw on the lines...
Took Whiskey Dream in tow...
and we are on our way!
Now the reason I did grocery shopping yesterday afternoon becomes very clear hey? I will keep you updated, after all, I certainly don't have much to do in the mangroves besides blog updates and computer stuff!
