I have not heard from the crew to see how the swell was or is, but I thought this was amusing passed on today from the tourist board.
Red Flags are flying at the following beaches; Smuggler's Cove, Long Bay (west end), Cane Garden Bay, Josiah's Bay, Lambert Beach, Little Bay & The Baths NPT.
Lifeguards are on Duty at Cane Garden Bay 9 to 5pm.
Brewer's Bay & Apple/Capoons Bay beaches should also be considered being Red Flagged. (Unfortunately we do not have enough flag poles).
Even though we do not have enough flag poles I am glad to see them taking proactive action on letting us all know.
There is sure some rain and wind in the southeastern united states. We are over in New Orleans! We drove through Biloxi and Gulfport yesterday and there was more sand on the road then on the beach..I was surprised to still see so much devastation how many years after the hurricane, however it was nothing like coming in on the I10 on the east side of New Orleans. It is devastated. There are still miles and miles of empty houses. I had a tear in my eye, wondering if we should even BE here. We are staying at a RV park that is right outside the french quarter, with security everywhere.
I don't know whether all this land in these areas was cheap to buy after the hurricane or what. Most of the rebuilding seems to be by things like developers, and Waffle House and MacDonalds.
I received a note on the blog today from someone else PO'ed about add ons, I quote:
Your comments about add-on charges hit a nerve with me, too. I was annoyed this week when trying to make hotel reservations for an upcoming trip. If the various taxes weren't enough, a $22 a day "resort fee" was added. It's not like I plan to sit around the pool or use the workout room (wish I could, but this isn't a vacation!), but there's no discussion or options -- I get charged that if I want to stay there. If I can't "opt out" of a service fee, I'd much prefer having a room rate $22 higher than to be reminded that I'm being nickeled-and-dimed for something I most likely won't be using anyway.
I did not go through half my story the other night, as I thought I would sound even more like a pessimistist raving lunatic then usual! The marina in Charlotte Amalie does it as well. When we pulled in to take off garbage, they wanted $15.00 a bag as the garbage was "foreign" they had to burn it. Then they charge you a $5.00 a day fee for picking up garbage whether you have any or not, and a "security" fee of the same amount per day. It surprises me when I see add ons for things that you would expect would be in the price, but you are seeing it with more and more things nowadays. They tell you one price and then there are add ons that you never would have thought about in a million years that you would have had to think to ask about.
I don't like it either, especially as they are not things you can opt out of. It is just misleading advertising in my books!
